All About Internships

Internship programs are the opportunities that many organisations offer to students who are in their penultimate (second last) or pre-penultimate (third last) year of study. These programs allow students to gain a better understanding for the role/industry they are working in, as companies will provide students with the required training and professional development skills for the job.

Summer Internships/ Vacationer Programs

Summer internships/vacationer programs is just like the name suggests, it is a period of time in the long summer holidays where companies offer paid positions for students to learn and gain work experiences. These internships will often be full time, with you working alongside current working employees on real projects the company has been asked to work on. This is a great and valuable learning experience for undergraduate students as it allows students to learn workplace skills in a short time and explore possible job prospects before graduation. A perk of vacationer programs is that some companies give students the opportunity to rotate through several teams within their applied division, which is perfect for those who are unsure of what they want to do or are unsure of the opportunities available.

Industry placement

Industry placement is workplace based learning for students to gain practical skills related to their course of study. Just like internships, it will provide students with hands-on learning in the workplaceand put what they have learnt in the classroom into practice! Most universities including UNSW offer industry placement as part of degrees so make sure to be out! For UNSW students, Career Accelerator is the perfect destination for this and they offer courses such as COMM2222, COMM2233, COMM2244, COMM3030.
